Se Na: I'm asking if you like me, it's weird, why do you show so much attention/care towards me? Why do you care whether or not I ran away or have debt? How did you even know I was in debt? Did you have someone follow me?... Are you trying to make something happen between us?
Hyun Wook: You're right. I'm going to make something happen between us. So that you can make 2,000,000W a song...
Se Na asks why he takes everything into his own hands; paying off her debt without even consulting her.
Hyun Wook: Ok fine. Forget my proposal.
He takes out his phone to cancel the contract (to buy her song/talent) and Se Na grabs it.
Hyun Wook: Don't worry you're not a woman to me. (LOL - I've heard this a thousand times... we all know where this is heading)
He leaves the scene. As the cold guy act dissipates, he peaks back
around the bushes and watches Se Na board her bus and calls her a fool.
Se Na receives a phone call from Mr. loan shark bidding his final good bye, growing an attachment after 3 years of chasing her. He tells her to have a good life, wishing her good luck and hangs up. At that exact moment the wheel of the bus pops.
Se Na is back to living at Hong Joo's.
Hyun Wook is busy making breakfast for Dal Bong, who is sitting at the table. The door bell rings and Hyun Wook invites the guest in, thinking it's Se Na. Nope it's Hae Yoon.
They talk about the plagiarism issue, Hyun Wook defends Se Na saying she won't say a word of it, there is no need for precautions. Meanwhile, Hae Yoon grabs a piece of Dal Bong's breakfast to eat, not knowing it was Dal Bong's. Hyun Wook warns her not to take anymore.
She tells Hyun Wook to change into a suit for work.
Hae Yoon gives Dal Bong glares of jealously. Dal Bong barks right back at her.
At the company there is a meeting. One of the staff member (guy in red) complains that Jae Young should be filling the role of president. The president's voice is suddenly heard, "Hyun Wook has qualifications as well!". The president had requested a video conference.
Everyone is suddenly on egg shells. His wife grabs the tablet and ends the conference, warning him not to yell, it's not good for his blood pressure.
Red shirt refuses to acknowledge Hyun Wook as president.
In enters Hyun Wook, formally introducing himself for the first time. Red shirt introduces himself as Kang Tae min (Jo Hee Bong).
Hyun Wook informs the staff that he will be here for two months.
Se Na arrives at AnA and is asked to go to the President's room.
Se Na asks why ajusshi is at AnA.
Hyun Wook: I told I decided to work at AnA.
Se Na: You look like someone completely different in a suit.
Hyun Wook: I look good wearing whatever, but it suits me...
Se Na: ... I wasn't saying you look good, just different.
She asks whether he is allowed to just walk into the President's room. "Yeah, because it's my room.".
Hyun Wook records them discussing her contract details: Yoon Se Na will write a 20,000,000W song in two months. If not you will repay the 20,000,000W debt that I covered for you.
She questions whether he really believes in her, that he won't regret this offer. He answers, I don't worry about 2,000,000W deals but 20,000,000W ones.
Hyun Wook introduces Se Na to Jae Young as a new member of the songwriting team. He is less than pleased. Still not admitting that he plagiarised her song.
Jae Young suggests that she should audition; like any other trainee. Hae Yoon tries to settle the tension, by suggesting she participate in the monthly reviews. Both sides agree.
Se Na is left in the room with Jae Young who instructs her to take out the trash.
The next monthly trial is next Wednesday.
Meet Hyun Wook's younger half sister, Lee Min Ah (Dani). They greet each other warmly, the wife also tags along.
He learns for the first time that Min Ah is a trainee at AnA.
Se Na finds the practice room and is in awe of the all the instruements, in particular the keyboard. Hae Yoon enters the room and formally introduces herself, calling Se Na lucky for receiving acknowledgement from Hyun Wook as it is rare. She questions Se Na not really knowing who Hyun Wook is, since she is an aspiring songwriter.
Realisation strikes Se Na's face.
Hyun Wook visits his father at the hospital but catches him flirting with the nurses.
He gets straight to the point and asks why he took in Min Ah as a trainee, knowing that she is not talented.
Father: We'll just drop her into a girl group and leave her be.
Hyun Wook: Is this how you ran your company?
(His father diverts the topic by asking about the new staff Hyun Wook brought in)
So now you even have a spy on me?
Father: Of course I do
Hyun Wook: So do you plan on running my life again?
...
Father: Also... I will not interfere with you love life...
Hyun Wook: There won't be a woman in my life. Until I die. and you forgot one thing, I haven't forgiven you.
As Hyun Wook drives home we get another flashback to more happier times as So Eun and Hyun Wook play the piano together.
Se Na still in at AnA and searches up Hyun Wook, listening to all the songs he composed.
Hyun Wook makes a detour to AnA, he hears someone playing the keyboard (a familiar tune?).
As Se Na sings her sister appears next to her, they sing and play together. Hyun Wook approaches the room where he hears singing. He sees So Eun but he knows it's Se Na.
They ask each other why they are at AnA so late. Se Na tells him she listened to all his songs, and ask whether they are all about the same woman. "It's none of your business".
The next morning Hyun Wook is having a meeting with MHDR (Shi Woo is missing), who are seeking for a pay rise. Shi Woo arrives late, "Im sorry, there was traffic".
Hyun Wook: You all live in a the same dorm, why were you stuck in traffic alone? are you an outcast?
Rae Hun: There is no such thing in our group... Shi Woo got a new car. He's totally into driving.
Hyun Wook: Congrats. You ended up becoming a singer after all.
Shi Woo: Congrats to you too on becoming president. Ah... I forgot about the funeral. You said you'd build a funeral mound if I became a singer.
Hyun Wook: You hold grudges.
Shi Woo: Scars, not grudges. Your words wounded me.
It is Shi Woo birthday soon.
Shi Woo finds Se Na in the practice room and so their bickering begins.
Shi Woo: Don't you know the code of being a trainee? Bow at 90 degree angle at all times. Do whatever your sunbae orders you to do. If a top star walks in, you empty the practice room no matter what... (he goes on to say that everything a trainee uses is earned by his work) go to a cafe and get me an iced coffee.
Se Na: Ra Eum... I can see why she rejected you. BURN
Sung Jin jokingly greets Hyun Wook as President Wook. Sung Jin asks whether he has found So Eun's younger sister, whether she is here at AnA. We find out Ra Eum has signed a contract with AnA.
Cut to Shi Woo practicing MDHR's dance routine alone. Ra Eum enters with her fake smile giving him a towel. She asks what he wants for his birthday present.
Shi Woo: What do you think I want? (He approaches her, she does the shuffle backwards, her eyes dart in a million directions, he turns off the CD player) Don't worry I'm not interested in you anymore.
Rae Hun arrives and they leave together (these two are dating now).
The team have a meeting about Shi Woo's birthday party. Hyun Wook is texting on his phone, asking the ajumma whether Dal Bong's poop is looking good, the colour and so forth. Hyun Wook agrees to go to a meeting with Hae Yoon for a tough client.
Se Na is instructed to check and move all of Shi Woo's presents. Hyun Wook and Hae Yoon pass by as they head for their meeting.
The client has "woman issues", he is particularly exicted to see Ra Eum's face. Hae Yoon is worried that he might want more than that.
Shi Woo arrives at his birthday party greeted by streamers and a birthday carried by two of his group members.
Rae Hun has prepared a special gift for Shi Woo. A video montage which has the fans awwing but within the video there is a clip from concert after party where Se Na slapped Shi Woo. Se Na also happens to be in the room to deliver Shi Woo's presents.
Rae Hun acts all innocent. The reporters capture the moment.
Shi Woo and Rae Hun go out to talk. Se Na happens to also head in the same direction and watches the interaction.
Shi Woo: Do you want me to leave MHDR?
Rae Hun: No. You work hard now that Joong Do is gone.
Shi Woo: Is it my fault he got kicked out? You think I asked for Joong Do to leave so I could replace him?
Rae Hun: If someone talented had come in to replace Joong Do I wouldn't have been so pissed. You're just a pretty face without talent...
Shi Woo throws a punch. Rae Hun throws one back promising it will be 2 fold. Se Na tells them to stop. Rae Hun leaves saying that they will finish this at the dorm.
Se Na apologises for slapping him the other day.
Shi Woo: Don't apologise, that way I can be as cruel to you when you bother me again.
Ra Eum arrives at the meeting. Ra Eum is just about to rip her contract, when a someone knocks on the door.
His wife... I suppose the deal went smoothly after that??
There is an uproar on SNS about the incident last night. The staff play blame games. Jae Young: "Too bad. We could have used that 60,000,000W investment. That girl you brought in put that all to waste."
Se Na finds Hyun Wook on the rooftop.
She apologises. He asks what she is sorry for. Slapping Shi Woo? That Rae Hun and Shi Woo threw punches at each other? It is that nice to see celebrities up close.
Se Na says she didn't go to the party to see Shi Woo's face. He reminds her of her contract details.
Hyun Wook: Your best? You said you wanted to do music. You said you wanted it more than anything... Do you think the monthly review will be easy? For the trainees here, it is a matter of life and death... The chance I gave you was too generous. That's how undeserving you seem to me.
Hyun Wook watches Se Na, he wants to go in to talk but stops himself as he is reminded of what Se Na said "Do you like me ajusshi?". Se Na starts playing a piece. It attracts Hyun Wook's attention, he stares at her.
It is the monthly review day.
Jae Young comes in to order Se Na to retrieve an mp3 file from a person called Shinsadong Tiger.
Se Na: What about the monthly review?
Jae Young: You don't need it. =="
The trainees start their review. During one of the reviews where the idol had chosen a song Hyun Wook composed, he suddenly gets head/chest pains. He hears a ringing sound in his head.
Min Ah also performs but forgets the lyrics.
Se Na is not back before her turn. Cut to Se Na running back.
As the overall comments are given to the group of trainees Se Na arrives giving Jae Young the mp3 file he requested. She requests that if the monthly review is not over she get to perform. Hyun Wook says of course.
She performs a self composed song called "울컥 - On the verge of tears".
The trainees and staff are touched by the lyrics and song, except Jae Young. Tae Min seems to be too scared to express he liked the song so he says "It has an amateur feel to it. There is no hook."
Jae Young: You've never properly studied song writing, have you? You obviously don't know anything about harmony. This song shows your limitations. There is no need to evaluate this.
Hyun Wook: Producer Seo is right. There are a lot of shortcomings. Songwriting requires a lot of basics that you're missing. It was a mess. But I look forward to what you'll do in the future. It was strangely charming song.
The evaluator on the the far left also agrees with the strange charm.
Jae Young mentions that Hyun Wook was strangely quiet until Se Na performed and now he has this much to say. So Hyun Wook starts listing all the faults/flaws in each of the trainees as he was holding back since they were all Jae Young's trainees.
Jae Young: So? You're saying the kid you brought in is the best?
Hyun Wook: Is it you don't want to admit it, or that you can't see it?... If the nation's best songwriter can't see it, it's an embarrassment.
Jae Young: Does she look like a genius to you?
Hyun Wook: She might be.
Jae Young: Really? Then how about a battle? Your so-called genius vs me.
Hyun Wook: What's at stake?
Jae Young: MHDR's title song. If I win, she leaves. If she wins, I leave.
Hyun Wook: Let's do it.
Hyun Wook is confronted by the wife, she is adamant on Min Ah becoming a singer. "I have endured you for 17 years, shouldn't you help out with this?".
She pretends to be all friendly, asking him out for lunch with Min Ah.
Se Na asks why he made such a promise. All she wanted was to get along with everyone, compose music, listen to music, clean, look at celebrities etc. She wanted to stay at that job for a long time. But she can't because of him.
Hyun Wook: You never know. There might be a miracle.
Se Na: That is ridiculous.
Hyun Wook: You're special. At least to me. It has been a long time. Having my heart beat while listening to someone's song.
THOUGHTS
I am intrigued by the story behind MHDR's formation after Joong Do left. This may explain why there is so much hatred from Rae Hun. Was he always like this? Was there a time when he was happy? I would like to see a time when both Rae Hun and Shi Woo were happy.
The episode was quite slow. But I will continue to watch this series. I also look forward to the songs Se Na will compose.
