On campus, Kotoko is even more out of it than usual. She is slumped in her seat, her friends console her; asking whether her relationship with Naoki is going fine. Kotoko perks up at the mention of Naoki's name but unconvincingly says that the are fine. Tomoko suggests she go visit Naoki. Motoki gives his input; that married men become bachelors when their wives aren't around. Keita adds that Naoki is a man so he must have been approached by pretty nurses and patients.
Kotoko jumps out of her seat, both arms out stretched up in the air, exclaiming that she is fine then running out of the room. Outside Kotoko is upset that everyone is talking about the one person she doesn't want to think about as she has been suppressing the desire to go visit Naoki. She consoles herself, then gets an epiphany... to get a glimpse of Naoki from afar.
Kotoko now stands in front of the train station ready to visit Naoki. On her arrival she is excited to walk on the ground he did and breathe the same air.
Kotoko finds Naoki in the hospital, she hides behind a bookshelf with a surgical mask and glasses as her disguise. She is awe struck as she watches Naoki walk by, noting that her energy levels are rising. She is satisfied, ready to head back to Tokyo.. Two nurses gush about Naoki very loudly, one nurse wonders whether he is married. The other replies that he doesn't even have a girlfriend. Kotoko convinces herself that things like this used to happen in Tokyo, with her renewed energy she should go back home.
Walking, Kotoko is knocked over by a little girl named Nami (Kotoko dubs her the Kansai version of Yuki). Kotoko kindly asks for Nami to apologise, instead Nami pulls on Kotoko's surgical mask to fling it back onto Kotoko's face before calling her an idiot.
Nami runs back to her mother's side telling her that Kotoko looks like a slit mouth woman, the mother makes her daughter apologise, only for her to call Kotoko a Kuidaore Taro (drum playing clown like person). Nami laughs loudly whilst pointing her finger towards Kotoko then runs away to hold onto Naoki's arm (the mother greets Naoki as their doctor). Kotoko flees from the situation, hiding beneath some chairs.
Behind the chairs, Kotoko is trying to evaluate what the relationship between the three are.
Nami suddenly pushes her mother into Naoki. Nami teases that her mother spends a lot of time wearing makeup when she meets Naoki Sensei. Nami's mother asks whether Naoki has time today, he does, she asks to meet at Central Park at 5'O Clock.
Kotoko hides behind the bushes to spy on Nami and her mother. On his arrival Nami immediately wants to play, she grabs Naoki by the wrist trying to pull him up from the bench. Nami's mother gives her coins to buy juice, Nami jokes about intruding on their time together before heading off.
Kotoko watches on as Naoki places a hand on Nami's mother's back. Rustling is heard before Nami points her finger at Kotoko then saying she found her. Nami calls and waves her arms to get Naoki's attention, Kotoko covers Nami's mouth asking her not to blow her cover.
Crows caw as Naoki is now standing next to the two, they stare silently at each other as Kotoko is still cupping Nami's mouth. Naoki asks what she is doing... Now back at Naoki's residence he explains Nami's situation. Nami is under his care along with another doctor, she has had heart problems since birth and has had several seizures. Nami had been told that when she is older there's a need for another surgery (her first one was when she was 5). The surgeon and Naoki believe the right time is now. Nami's father had passed away two years ago and she is scared she will pass away too during the surgery, so she is scared. Therefore, at the park Naoki was giving advice to Nami's mother.
Kotoko feels bad for misunderstanding the situation but is surprised that Naoki is heading towards the pediatric department. Naoki wants to become a pediatric surgeon.
Kotoko then asks what got Naoki interested into becoming a doctor. Naoki says it's not a big deal but Kotoko continues to pester him for an answer following him to the bedside. Naoki kisses Kotoko and tells her goodnight.
The next morning Kotoko is ready to head back to Tokyo fully recharged. Naoki apologises for not being able to send her off to the train station. The two say their goodbyes at the hospital but are interrupted by Nami, now calling Kotoko "all-you-can-eat big sister". Nami calls her out for spending so much time with Naoki. Nami asks for Kotoko's relationship with Naoki, she asks if Kotoko is Naoki's girlfriend. Kotoko softly nudges Naoki... he says no, then says that Kotoko is his wife. Both Nami and her mother are in disbelief.
Nami is upset as Naoki was suppose to marry her mother, she starts to tear up saying her mother is prettier, good at cooking... Naoki kneels down at eye level and says he can't. Nami calls him an idiot and runs away. Nami stops to clutch at her chest and collapses.
In the waiting area, Kotoko and Naoki promise to try their best to convince Nami to undergo surgery in three days. Naoki thinks otherwise, reminding Kotoko that she was suppose to go home today, Kotoko refuses, convinced it was partially her fault so she must stay to help. Kotoko holds onto Nami's mother's hand ensuring her that she will aid Nami to get better (she also adds that from last night she had decided to become a pediatric nurse LOL).
Kotoko starts her effort into befriending Nami... Kotoko brings a bouquet of flowers for Nami which she doesn't accept then Kotoko switches to finger shadow puppets. Kotoko attempts a dog.
Nami is not impressed, calling Kotoko's finger shadow puppet wrong, rather than a dog it was more like a wolf. Nami starts teaching Kotoko how to properly form a dog with her fingers.
Two days have passed with no results. Kotoko comes to visit with taiyaki (Japanese fish shaped cake). They two eat when Kotoko slips in a question; have you decided to do the surgery? Nami answers with another question; Do you feel like breaking up with Dr Irie? Kotoko says that's the one thing she can't do. Kotoko continues to quickly sum up how she and Naoki got together. Nami comments that her relationship seems to have been very smooth. Kotoko calls it fate.
Their conversation drifts to how Kotoko would of had competition, Nami notes that Kotoko probably freaked everyone away. Kotoko tells Nami that when she grows up one day to get a boyfriend like Naoki but for now she has to save up energy. Kotoko can tell Nami trusts Naoki as he appears to be like superman; he is always there when she needs to be helped. Nami knows that Naoki can help her but what she is really upset about is that even after she gets better Kotoko will not give up Naoki, she wonders whether there will be another person like Naoki out there.
Kotoko gives Nami a suggestion that we don't hear.
The next day, Nami happily agrees to the surgery... having promised something with Kotoko. Naoki isn't very thrilled, asking Kotoko what she is plotting. Kotoko waves her hands, saying it's nothing. Nami says it's a secret between the two. Kotoko diverts her eyes elsewhere as Naoki stands next to her.
Whilst prepping for surgery, Nami tells Naoki that she isn't scared because she trusts him. She also asks why he decided to become a doctor.
Naoki: When I didn't know what I should do in the future and I was suffering, I remember someone telling me, "It'd be nice if you became a doctor." and I thought it wasn't a bad idea.
Nami asks if it was Kotoko, Naoki says that Kotoko probably doesn't even remember saying that.
Nami's surgery was a success and she is recovering well.
Kotoko is finally on her way back home, Naoki hands to her a letter written by Nami which reminds Kotoko to keep her promise or else she's dead... Naoki takes a peek, noting that Nami is quite scary. He asks what she had promised her...
Kotoko had promised Yuki to be married with Nami. Naoki tells Kotoko off for being an obvious liar/making a promise she can't keep. Kotoko was counting on Naoki the genius to solve this slight conundrum. Kotoko had been pining that she would eventually forget...
The two continue heading towards the train station with Kotoko a few steps behind. Naoki sweetly tells Kotoko that she must pass the National Nursing Examination in one go before leaving.
The count down to the test begins, we watch as Kotoko studies from 180 days to 0 days until the exam.
TWO WEEKS LATER
It is the day the results are posted online. The whole gang and family are infront of the computer anticipating their marks. Kotoko is especially anxious because of her examination number 794 (pun for I'll cry = bad omen). Motoki volunteers to look up Kotoko's results for her. The gang check their numbers first, they all passed. Then they wave Kotoko over to the laptop. Kotoko passed too!!
That night Kotoko attempts to call Naoki but is sent to voice mail. Kotoko decides to relay the good news in person then. Off she goes on the bullet train.
Kotoko walks through the streets of Kobe in her nurses' uniform (freezing her butt off). She doesn't know the direction of Naoki's place nor does she have her phone to call him with... Kotoko has no choice but to sleep on a park bench. Already on a bench is unseen man sleeping in a suit, she asks him for permission before sitting on the bench next to his.
She asks for him to lend an ear (all this time he has been covered by his blazer as a blanket over his head). Kotoko continues talking about her mishaps on her way to see her husband.
Here is the comic like set up.
Long story short - she hopped on the train, a passenger became sick so she assisted the person off the train to the paramedic. The train left before she re-boarded and all her belongings were still in the train - phone, coat and map. She caught the next train but it didn't stop at Shin-Kobe but now she has finally arrived. That night Kotoko attempts to call Naoki but is sent to voice mail. Kotoko decides to relay the good news in person then. Off she goes on the bullet train.

The man starts laughing. Sympathising as it must have been a big ordeal. Naoki gets up to reveal himself behind the blazer.
Naoki's mother had contacted the hospital, knowing that Kotoko would get lost on the streets. Naoki asks why Kotoko always comes without any announcements, she says she was too excited and couldn't reach him or leave a voice mail. Naoki gets up to tell her that he is happy to be able to finally work with her and that she has worked really hard for the past year. The two hug.
As they walk home Kotoko retells her story but in fragments.. Naoki mentions that she told her story better the first time around.
