2016 Korean Dramas

Shopping King Louie

Got to admit, I'm only watching this for Seo In Guk. His character is so helpless and gullible after losing his memory. But seriously, who transfers $2000 because someone claims to have your identification card.

Bok Shil becomes Louie's guardian after finding him in her brother's tracksuit (she personally made), she promises to help him until he regains his memory (so she can find her brother).

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo

So many love interests vying for Hae Soo... the storyline is quite interesting, (most) characters are likeable. It's a nice historical drama where a modern girl gets transported into the past, at first she is bubbly and trusting of everyone but learns to be more wary and strong headed.

The only thing about this drama is that the version that airs in Korea and the one that airs in China have slightly different scenes and editing.

The K2

Currently really enjoying this one, if anything you have to watch this for Ji Chang Wook. If you're having withdrawals from Healer, watch this! Lots of action, cool fight scenes and thirst for revenge with a splash of romance.

Cinderella and Four Knights

Easy watch, this is the type of drama you have playing in the background. It's the classic Cinderella storyline. Poor girl is mistreated by her step mother and sister, she meets these 4 'princes' whom treat her well (not at first though) etc. etc.

W (Two Worlds)

In love with this drama! Four episodes in and I can't wait for the upcoming episodes. Finally Han Hyo Joo is in a drama again (love her)!! I was anticipating this drama for the longest time, it was teased more than a month before its airing.

This drama mixes both the real and a make believe manhwa world. The worlds divulge when Oh Yeon Joo (Han Hyo Joo) is pulled into the manhwa when Kang Chul (Lee Jong Suk) receives a deadly stab wound from a hooded figure.

Yeon Joo continues to travel back and forth between the worlds every time Kang Chul life's in danger.

There is so much more complexity in the plot (good complexity) to be explained in a few sentences! Definitely give this a go!!

The Good Wife

I have never watched the original American series, so I can't give much of a comparison. But I do enjoy the Korean version, this is more of a serious drama not light hearted at all. It's quite a niche drama.

The remake has similar characters/plot as the original; there is a love triangle, love scandal etc. Once again, I'm not too sure if the drama follows the original but it's a good watch so far (episode 6). Couldn't have asked for a better cast.

Uncontrollably Fond

From the start this drama didn't catch my attention. The plot line is too over done and I really don't like storylines where they incorporate a mysterious incurable life threatening you're going to die in a few months storyline.

At least Suzy looks pretty...

Bring it on Ghost

This is a fun watch! I have been enjoying the episodes a lot.

Kim Hyun Ji (Kim So Hyun) after dying in an accident, has been roaming in Seoul for the past several years. By chance she meets exorcist Park Bong Pal (Ok Taec Yeon), they team up as ghost exorcists in order for Hyun Ji to repay her debt (long story short she texted him to perform an exorcism and now owes him $10K) to Bong Pal and to find out the truth about her death which she has no memory of.

There is a good amount of mystery, eeriness and fun.

Doctors

Doctors had such a strong start, the first few episodes were so intriguing and impactful but it has since drifted off since episode 8 or so. I might pick this one up again once all episodes
have aired...

Beautiful Gong Shim

I was hooked onto this one but it lost my interest towards the end, have yet to finish the last few episodes.

Mirror of the Witch

Prime example that you don't need skinship to portray love. The two leads despite their age difference were able to express their love through their eyes, gestures and action.

Good drama, a little strung out at times but suspenseful nonetheless. The ending may be unfavourable by some but I think it wrapped up the drama well. May have been better if it was a 16 episode run rather than 20.

Page Turner

Kim So Hyun as Yoon Yoo Seul
Ji Soo as Cha Sik
Shin Jae Ha as Seo Jin Mok

Light, three episode drama. Wished there were at least one more episode as the ending was not satisfying... That being said it was a nice one shot marathon type of drama.

The storyline involves Yoo Seul a talented pianist who has always ranked first in many competitions. On her way home from a competition, a truck collides into her car. The accident renders her blind.

Goodbye Mr Black

Lee Jin Wook as Cha Ji Won/Black
Moon Chae Won as Swan/Khaya
Yoo In Young as Yoon Ma Ri
Kim Kang Woo as Min Seo Jae

I'm quite enjoying this series! Not sure if I'm the only one, but I anticipate this drama more than Descendants. It's always the one I watch first. The timing just wasn't right for this drama, it would have gotten much higher ratings if it were not competing against Descendants.

Interesting storyline! Revenge, getting back what's rightfully yours, finding new love etc.

Descendants of the Sun

Song Joong Ki as Captain Yoo Si Jin
Song Hye Kyo as Dr Kang Mo Yeon
Kim Ji Won as First Lieutenant Yoon Myung Joo
Jin Goo as Sergeant Major Seo Dae Young

Boy am I loving this drama, I didn't have much expectations beginning this drama but Song Joong Ki has blown me away and I'm pretty sure every other female who has been watching this drama. Who would of thought he could pull off a character that is so straight forward and masculine. OMO Blush**

Top notch cast! Love it!

Remember

Yoo Seung Woo as Seo Jin Woo
Park Min Young as Lee In Ah
Park Sung Woong as Park Dong Ho
Nam Goong Min as Nam Gyu Man

I just started watching this one. All the episodes are out and I'm planning on marathoning it; as long as it keeps my attention. So far I'm three episodes in and it's quite an interesting storyline not original but still interesting.

If you enjoy dramas that focus on law and getting justice this might be for you. The basis of the drama is similar to I Can Hear Your Voice - getting justice/becoming a lawyer. In the sense that Jin Woo is trying to clear his father who has been framed for a murder and is gifted with Hyperthymesia.

Madame Antoine

Han Ye Seul as Go Hye Rim
Sung Joon as Choi Soo Hyun
Jinwoon as Choi Seung Chan
Lee Joo Hyung as Won Ji Ho
Hwang Seung Eon as Go Yoo Rim

This has been quite a fun series so far, slow at first but the plot has begun to get more interesting. Honestly, the first two episodes weren't so good but it seems to be picking up pace. Looking forward to episode 5.

The basis of the storyline follows psychotherapist, Soo Hyun's, attempt to prove the true love does not exist. Hye Rim takes part in his test project (not knowing it's true purpose), where 3 men, Soo Hyun included attempt to win the heart of Hye Rim.

Moorim School

Lee Hyun Woo as Yoon Shi Woo
Hong Bin as Wang Chi Ang
Seo Ye Ji as Sim Soon Deok

I've been watching this drama for the past two weeks (since it aired), the four episodes so far haven't been all that exciting. Not too sure how I feel about the drama... The drama is more of a teen romance type of drama with mystical/magical aspects.

UPDATE**
The storyline is nothing special but I stuck through to the end with this drama. Overall, it was an easy watch that revolved around friendship and trust. The drama was neatly wrapped up in the end.

7/10

Cheese in the Trap

Park Hae Jin as Yoo Jung
Kim Go Eun as Hong Seol
Seo Kang Joon as Baek In Ho

An adaptation done well. Thoroughly enjoying this series (6 episodes in), after being left disappointed with Orange Marmalade adaptation, I was pleasantly surprised with Cheese in the Trap. Despite having not read the whole webtoon series, from what I have read, the drama has followed and also made subtle changes to the storyline. But overall, the writer has made the drama very enjoyable and true to the original.

UPDATE** (SPOILER ALERT)
The last few episodes veered off into a direction that I didn't expect. I wished that Yoo Jung's past was explained more, as I believed his storyline was quite interesting and could have been developed to a very interesting storyline.

The open ending didn't float my boat.

8/10

One More Happy Ending

I only stuck with this drama for the first few episodes, the storyline wasn't particularly interesting.

Jang Na Ra as Han Mi Mo
Jung Kyung Ho as Song Soo Hyuk
Kwon Yool as Goo Hae Joon
